Video 12.1 Extracting and pinning ganglia (HelisomaLymnaea). Cut nerves and connective tissue that attach the ganglia to the buccal mass. Keep the nerves as long as possible. After cutting a few, grasp and hold one nerve, then use it to lift the ganglia away from the mass. When all nerves have been cut, move the ganglia to a small dish of saline. Place a pin through any nerve to hold the ganglia down. Check the orientation of the ganglia and try to keep the caudal side (with the large cell bodies) facing up. Now add more pins to stretch the ganglia out as tightly as possible. Try to place pins at a shallow angle so that they do not stick up too far.
